About this community:

Precinct2gether is a nonprofit affiliated with Harris County Precinct 2, the largest county in Texas, 3rd largest in the U.S., and the country’s most diverse. Our precinct comprises 1/4 of the county—1.3 million residents, 65% of whom are Latino. The area includes the county’s lowest income and most underserved communities. The proposed dog park site is home to the only Berliner Cloverwood play structure in the United States- merging both play and art.

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Precinct2gether wants to ensure that all Precinct 2 constituents and their canine companions have access to safe and clean dog parks. This will allow families to build strong, long-lasting relationships with their pets while ensuring they receive proper exercise and enrichment. This opportunity for socialization is one that many families do not have access to due to low incomes and the high costs of dog socialization programs. We believe constituents should have high-quality dog parks without having to travel outside of their neighborhood and without having to pay for pet services. The proposed dog park is a vital component in the community’s plan to have the Jim and JoAnn Fonteno Family Park as an inclusive park for the whole family, pets included. Current park amenities include playground equipment suited for mobility aids, an amphitheater, and Operation Yellowbird Mountain Bike Trail – the 2021 National Association of Counties Achievement Award recipient.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

If Precinct2gether is awarded the Bark for Your Park™ grant, the funds will be used to purchase equipment for a dog agility course, pet waste stations, dog water fountains, park signage, and benches. In addition, this funding will support the community’s master plan to provide amenities to Precinct 2 families that will positively impact their lives.
