About this community:

Spartanburg is home to small business owners, big city transplants, and life-long South Carolina residents. Walk into any of the stores downtown, and you will be welcomed with a sweet southern greeting! Passionate restaurateurs have turned the city into a foodie haven, and local artists can be found painting the sides of buildings and even the streets! Lastly, our growing trail network has contributed to an increase in active living and dog walking!

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Spartanburg was recently recognized by Stessa as the “No. 1 small U.S. metropolitan area” in the country regarding economic growth. As we’ve welcomed new ‘Spartanburgers’ into town, development has sky-rocketed. As a result, yard sizes are shrinking, and our dogs need a safe place to play! This dog park would allow for dogs in the city and the suburbs alike to run in nature as they deserve to. The land reserved for our new dog park is situated along Spartanburg’s most popular walking trail, which saw almost 200,000 uses in the last year. Additionally, the trail is being expanded into our city’s downtown, resulting in more foot traffic than ever before. Finally, we will be forming a Dog Park committee full of passionate dog owners that will work with the city to ensure that the park will be well loved and cared for.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

If we win the Bark for Your Park grant, we will build a new dog park alongside our existing dog park that will consist of a fenced-in wooded area for dogs to run around in! Temperatures in South Carolina can get pretty high, and this new dog park will offer dogs a cooler area to play in, thanks to the tree coverage. Further, we will renovate the existing dog park to include separate areas for big and small dogs. We will also add new benches for dog owners to enjoy while observing their pups and dog water fountains to keep our pups hydrated.
